Important Announcement to Residents of The Woodlands

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands Township is actively monitoring Tropical Storm Beryl, which is forecasted to intensify into a Category 1 hurricane before making landfall just east of Matagorda Bay. The Woodlands is under a Tropical Storm Warning and Flash Flood Watch. This means we are likely to experience winds between 39 to 73 mph and may experience flash flooding. The current forecast predicts tropical storm-force winds to begin around 8 p.m. tonight (Sunday, July 7, 2024). If you have not already started taking precautions, please do so as soon as possible.

Facility Closures and Service Suspensions:

  • The Woodlands Township facilities will be closed tomorrow, Monday, July 8, 2024.
  • Waste Management has postponed trash service by one day for the remainder of the week.
    • Monday's pickup will be on Tuesday.
    • Tuesday's pickup will be on Wednesday.
    • Wednesday's pickup will be on Thursday.
    • Thursday's pickup will be on Friday.
    • Friday's pickup will be on Saturday.
  • All non-essential Township services will be suspended. This includes:
    • Town Hall
    • The Woodlands Express bus service
    • Town Center Trolleys
    • Recreation Centers
    • Sunny Dayz Camp
    • Swimming pools
    • Texas TreeVentures
    • The Boat Houses
  • While essential and emergency personnel will continue to service the community, emergency vehicles will be unable to respond when the sustained wind speed is above 50 mph. This includes police, fire and emergency medical services (EMS).

Safety Reminders:

  • Secure any loose items outside your home. This includes trampolines, lawn furniture, etc.
  • Clean up yard waste or debris that may become hazardous.
  • Ensure you have water and other essentials in your emergency supply kit.
  • Check on your neighbors who may be vulnerable.
  • Monitor the National Weather Service, local media, Harris and Montgomery Counties, and Township Alerts.
  • Avoid wading, playing or swimming in flood waters as debris, dangerous chemicals and other hazards may exist in flood water.
  • Be cautious of downed power lines and do not walk near them.
  • If power fails, remember that generators should only be located outdoors.
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning is a leading cause of death during disasters.
  • Avoid travel as rain can reduce visibility.
  • Do not drive through flood waters.
  • Do not drive around barricades.
