Woodlands Township board of directors support Walk to School Month and National Night Out

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- At the recent meeting of The Woodlands Township Board of Directors, Secretary Linda Nelson read a proclamation in support of National Walk to School Day and The Woodlands Township's extensive pathway system, encouraging safe and active travel to schools. The proclamation emphasizes the importance of physical activity in combating health issues such as obesity and diabetes among children. It highlights that walking or biking to school can reduce traffic congestion and air pollution while promoting safety. The proclamation also recognizes the efforts of parents, caregivers and community leaders in ensuring safe walking and biking routes and applauds The Woodlands for leading Texas in registered participating schools.

October is declared Walk to School Month in The Woodlands. Township Neighborhood Services will be holding their annual Walk and Roll to School campaign October 1 - 9. The schedule is as follows:

Conroe ISD 2024 Walk to School Schedule:

  • October 1 – Roger L. Galatas Elementary
  • October 2 - Sally K. Ride Elementary
  • October 2 - Joel L. Deretchin K-6
  • October 3 - Don A. Buckalew Elementary
  • October 3 - Glen Loch Elementary
  • October 4 - Colin L. Powell Elementary
  • October 4 - Mirabeau Lamar Elementary
  • October 8 - Barbara Pierce Bush Elementary
  • October 9 - Coulson Tough K-6
  • October 10 - Sam K. Hailey Elementary

Tomball ISD 2024 Walk to School Schedule:

  • October 1 - Timber Creek Elementary
  • October 8 - Creekview Elementary
  • October 9 - Creekside Forest Elementary

Additionally at the meeting, Treasurer Richard Franks read a proclamation declaring October 6, 2024, as National Night Out Day in The Woodlands. The proclamation highlights the importance of this nationwide crime, drug and violence prevention program, sponsored by The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Watch in collaboration with the National Association of Town Watch. It emphasizes the role of local law enforcement in supporting these efforts and the critical impact of police-community partnerships.
