Conroe ISD Ranked 13th in Texas on Forbes’ List of America’s Best Employers by State 2024

CONROE, TX -- Conroe ISD was ranked 13th in Texas among the Forbes list of America’s Best Employers By State 2024. The District has made the list three consecutive years, and was the highest-ranked out of the seven K-12 education systems on the list of 101 companies from the state.

Houston Methodist earned the top spot for Texas, followed by Humana (2), H-E-B (3), Toyota North America (4), and Cook Children’s Health Care System (5). MD Anderson Cancer Center (11) and Chevron (12) claimed the two spots ahead of Conroe ISD, while Costco (14), IBM (15), Kelsey-Seybold Clinic (16), and Google (17) immediately followed. Other notable companies on the list include NASA (7), Bank of America (22), Marriott (25), Verizon (27), Microsoft (28), Apple (30), Chick-fil-A (33), Memorial Hermann (39), University of Texas (59), Nike (60), Southwest Airlines (61), and Shell (65).

Forbes partnered with market research firm Statista to survey 160,000 employees at companies with at least 500 employees in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Participants were asked if they would recommend their employer to others, and to evaluate their employer based on working conditions, diversity, compensation packages, potential for development, company image and more. Participants also assessed employers beyond their own. All surveys were anonymous to encourage candor. As with all Forbes lists, companies pay no fee to participate.

Established in 1892, Conroe ISD encompasses 348 square miles, the second-largest district geographically among the top 24 enrollments in Texas, and includes The Woodlands, Shenandoah, Oak Ridge North, Conroe, and Grangerland, as well as several other smaller towns, communities, and unincorporated areas. As the ninth largest district in Texas and 60th largest in the country, Conroe ISD is projected to serve approximately 74,000 students across 71 campuses in the 2024-25 school year and is one of the fastest-growing districts in the state with current enrollment growth exceeding 2,500 students per year.

In addition to being the largest school district in Montgomery County, Conroe ISD is also its largest employer with more than 10,000 employees, including substitutes. Conroe ISD was ranked 37th on the Forbes 2024 list of America’s Best Large Employers and was ranked 62nd on the Forbes list of America’s Best Employers for Women. In 2023 and 2024, Niche named Conroe ISD the Best School District, Most Diverse School District, Best Places to Teach, and Best School District for Athletes in Montgomery County.
