MCTXSheriff arrests two suspects stealing an ATM

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- On October 23, 2024, at around 3:15 a.m., Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office District 3 Patrol Division responded to an ATM alarm at the Wells Fargo located at 22420 Community Drive, New Caney, TX. The alarm company was able to provide a description of the suspects involved and the vehicle they were driving.

An Officer with the Splendora Police Department located the suspect vehicle, and a traffic stop was attempted. The suspects failed to stop, resulting in a pursuit. During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle crashed, and three suspects fled from the vehicle on foot into nearby woods. After a search for the suspects with the help of Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Canine units, Montgomery County Pct. 4 Constable Deputies, and the Department of Public Safety air support, two suspects were located and placed in custody.

The suspects have been identified as 34-year-old Elton Watson from Houston, TX, and 39-year-old Wiley Smith from Spring, TX. Both Watson and Smith have been transported to the Montgomery County Jail and have been charged with multiple felonies, including Evading with a Motor Vehicle, Theft of an ATM, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, and Criminal Mischief.

The third suspect is still at large and is wanted in connection to this incident.
