The Woodlands Arts Council announces that 2025 Student Art Scholarship applications are open
THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Woodlands Arts Council is inviting graduating high school seniors to submit a portfolio – three pieces – of visual or literary works of art in the following categories: 2D, 3D, Short Fiction, Short Nonfiction, and Poetry.
Student Art Scholarships have been foundational to The Woodlands Arts Council’s impact. The organization plans to award one exceptional student a $20,000 scholarship in 2025. in addition to the planned $40,000 awarded annually. That means the graduating class of 2025 in Montgomery County will receive $60,000 in Student Art Scholarships from TWAC to pursue their higher education.
Students must be available for the January 10 or 11, 2025 portfolio interviews. Awarded portfolios/students will be featured in The Woodlands Arts Council Student Arts Scholarship Anthology Volume 3 which will be available for purchase at The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival.
The application timeline is as follows:
- Friday, January 3, 2025 midnight – Application closes
- Tuesday, January 6, 2025 – Interview time assignments will be sent out
- Friday, January 10, 2025 – Afternoon Interview Day
- Saturday, January 11, 2025 – Interviews all day
- Wednesday, January 15, 2025 – Award notifications
- Thursday, March 20, 2025 – Student Art Anthology Reveal Party
Applicants may submit work in both Visual Arts and Literary Arts. The organization is only taking the first 40 submitted applicants for interviews.
3-D includes: Sculpture, Jewelry, Glass, Ceramics, Small Metals, Mixed Media, Fibers, 3-D prints, Animation, etc. in either a functional genre (including Realism / Abstract / Conceptual / Comic) or non-functional (including Realism / Abstract / Conceptual / Comic).
2-D includes: Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Mixed Media, Ink, Photo, Digital, etc. in the following genres: Realism (can include Stylized & Conceptual), Abstract (can include Stylized & Conceptual), and Graphic (can include Stylized, Design, Comic, & Conceptual).
Literary art includes: Short Fiction, Short Non-Fiction, and Poetry. All submissions must be 500 words or less. All work must be the original work of the applicant. Quotations may be used sparingly and must be properly attributed to their source within the text.
