HS Football Playoffs: 13-6A Scores Perfect Record in the Bi-District Round of the UIL Playoffs
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- A sweep across the board left all four teams that made the playoffs for 13-6A as winners through the Bi-District round of the 2024 UIL Football Playoffs.
Willis 63 vs. Spring 16
The back-to-back District Champion Willis Wildkats poured gas onto an already raging fire in their Bi-District matchup against the Spring Lions.
A red-hot offensive surge saw the Wildkats score touchdowns on all six of their first-half possessions while adding a special teams score on a mishandled Lions punt. The production on offense paired with the team’s effort on defense to catapult Willis into a 49-3 lead at the half.
From the start of the second half, the Wildkats got reps for second-unit players while working new sets for opposing teams to focus on.
Late play and more offense from both teams ended the night in a lopsided 63-16 win for the Wildkats under the lights of Yates Stadium.
Willis’ next game will be against the Tomball Cougars, who enter the game with a near-perfect 10-1 record. The high-intensity match will be on Friday the 22nd at Planet Ford Stadium, with The Woodlands Online Sports slated to provide audio-only commentary.
The Woodlands 42 vs. Aldine Nimitz 20
Despite finishing second in the district standings, the Highlanders had the opportunity to host their Bi-District matchup against the Cougars.
The Woodlands took full advantage of the home setting by using their multifaceted offense to keep Nimitz guessing on defense. Jack Daulton and the rest of The Woodlands offense worked their magic against the Nimitz defense to the tune of a 42-6 lead at the end of the first half.
Nimitz did tally two touchdowns in the second half, but the control from the Highlanders was far too much to overcome.
Resting players and getting backup reps allowed the Highlanders to focus on their next matchup without risking any of their valuable assets. The first-half onslaught from The Woodlands was enough to get the team a 42-20 win over the Cougars to advance to the second round.
Up next for the Highlanders are the Cypress Ranch Mustangs, who squeaked a 10-point win in their opening round. The Highlanders and Mustangs will square off on Friday out of Cy-Fair FCU Stadium at 7 P.M.
Conroe 34 vs. Benjamin Davis 7
A blazing offense in the first quarter pushed the Tigers to victory against the Benjamin Davis Falcons in a historic outcome for Conroe Football.
Recent offensive woes had shown holes in the Conroe running game, but Dramekco Green and Christian Nunley answered the call and fired on all cylinders. Their effort, along with a three-quarter shutout from the Tiger defense shot the team into an overbearing 31-0 lead through three quarters of play.
Elusive running and a sensational defensive effort ensured that the Falcons were unable to threaten Conroe’s control at any point.
Garbage time play saw Benjamin Davis break the shutout during the fourth quarter, but the massive Tiger lead was too much to overcome with time running out.
Coach Cedric Hardeman and his players celebrated the dominant display for the victory and the historic landmark of earning Conroe’s first playoff win since 1999. Constant work and grit from Coach Hardeman, his staff, and his players have rewarded the historic Tigers program with a well-deserved statement win to move to the next round.
Awaiting Conroe are the 10-win Bridgeland Bears, who snagged a seven-point win to play their upcoming neutral site game against the Tigers. Tomball ISD Stadium will be the venue for Conroe on Friday, with kickoff slated for 7 P.M.
College Park 16 vs. Westfield 13
The Cavaliers entered the playoffs two games above .500 only to face the District Champion Westfield Mustangs who entered the night on a seven-game winning streak.
Despite the mismatch on paper, the Cavs played a hard-nosed effort that kept the game low-scoring. The typically high-scoring Westfield offense was severely knee-capped by the suffocating play put on by College Park’s defense, allowing the Cavs to keep the game within reach for most of its play.
Both teams struggled to generate significant offense, but this type of game benefited the Cavs. The end of the third quarter left the teams in a 7-7 tie, but a few dagger plays would swing the momentum and score to College Park’s side.
The final 12 minutes were witnessed by College Park’s final effort, which gave the team a 16-7 effort behind determined play from all aspects of the team. Westfield did add a touchdown in the final minutes of play, but a failed onside kick allowed the Cavs to celebrate their Bi-District Championship on a 16-13 win over the Mustangs.
College Park’s test will be against Klein Collins, who limped into the postseason after finishing 4th in 15-6A. The chance to add another postseason win will come on Friday, with W.W. Thorne Stadium set to host.
