THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Groundwater Management Area (GMA) 14 Joint Planning Committee convened on November 19, 2024, at the Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District (GCD) office in Conroe, Texas to discuss the joint planning of groundwater resources in the region.

The Planning Committee includes Lone Star GCD, Bluebonnet GCD, Brazoria County GCD, Lower Trinity GCD, and Southeast Texas GCD. Attendees included representatives from member districts and interested stakeholders including representatives from the subsidence districts, MUDs, utilities, and cities in Montgomery County. Public engagement was encouraged by opportunities for community input during the public comment period.

The GCDs reviewed and considered their district management plans as mandated by Texas Water Code Chapter 36.108. This discussion aimed to ensure alignment with state regulations and effective resource management strategies.

Lone Star GCD shared progress on its ongoing coring project and the Gulf 2023 Model update which are pivotal to ensure the Desired Future Conditions (DFCs) are developed utilizing the best available data and science.

The GCDs voted to utilize each district’s individual consultant(s) to develop the DFCs as opposed to retaining a singular consultant to represent the GMA in this round of joint planning. The GCDs instructed their consultants to bring forth a schedule for discussion of the nine factors to be considered at the next joint planning meeting.

The GCDs are also slated to consider appointing stakeholders to nonvoting advisory subcommittees at the next meeting set for February 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. The location is to be determined.

These meetings are open to the public and available via live stream to enhance accessibility and participation.
