THE WOODLANDS, TX – The holiday season, often portrayed as joyful, can be difficult for many youth, especially those facing crises. Feelings of isolation, stress, or anxiety can be heightened due to family struggles, financial hardships, or seasonal pressures.

At YES to YOUTH, we’re here to help. Our youth mental health services, including crisis counseling and emotional support, provide critical resources for young people during this time.

The American Psychiatry Association offers simple strategies to help youth with holiday stress:

1. Take Breaks & Practice Self-Care – It’s okay to step back when things feel overwhelming. Enjoy simple activities like listening to music, journaling, drawing, or spending time outdoors.

2. Stay Connected – Reach out to trusted friends, family, or support groups. Talking to someone can ease feelings of loneliness and stress.

3. Set Realistic Expectations – You don’t have to meet everyone’s expectations. Focus on small, manageable goals and celebrate your efforts.

4 . Focus on What You Can Control – While you can’t control everything, small actions—like sticking to a routine or practicing deep breathing—can help you feel more grounded.

5. Limit Social Media Time – Social media can sometimes increase stress or comparison. Take breaks and spend time in the real world doing things that make you feel good.

6. Reach Out for Support – If you’re struggling, it’s okay to ask for help. Talk to a trusted adult, friend, or mental health professional. You are not alone.

By providing safe spaces, resources, and compassionate care, we can help youth navigate challenges, share their feelings, and know they are not alone. Together, we can ensure every young person feels supported and hopeful this holiday season.
