Montgomery County Provides Update Following EF-3 Tornado Impact

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- The Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management has released an update following the severe weather event and confirmed EF-3 tornado that impacted Southeast Montgomery County on December 28, 2024.

As the storm system moved through Montgomery County yesterday, a confirmed EF-3 tornado touched down in the Porter and New Caney areas, causing significant damage. In response, approximately 17 public safety agencies from Montgomery County, Harris County, and the State of Texas have joined forces to provide assistance to residents affected by the storm.

Eight to ten individuals sustained minor injuries related to the severe weather and were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Preliminary assessments indicate that approximately 302 structures in the affected area sustained damage, with about 30 of those structures being completely destroyed.

The Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management is collaborating with the Texas Division of Emergency Management, which has deployed personnel to the impacted neighborhoods. These teams are conducting detailed damage assessments and sharing information on available assistance programs with affected residents.

Entergy reports that approximately 1,334 meters remain without power in the impacted areas. Power restoration crews are working diligently to address outages and restore service as quickly as possible.

For residents displaced by the severe weather, a shelter remains open at the East Montgomery County Community Development Center, located at 16401 1st Street, Splendora, TX 77372. The shelter is providing a safe and warm environment for those in need.
