MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Justice Bureau has successfully passed a rigorous inspection by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards. This achievement is especially noteworthy considering the size and complexity of the Montgomery County jail system, which has a capacity of 1,253 inmates across its main facility. The inspections also included all outlying jail facilities across the 1,077 square miles of the county. The inspection, which concluded on January 23, 2025, involved a thorough review of all aspects of jail operations:

- Facility Conditions: Inspectors meticulously assessed the safety and sanitation of the facilities for both inmates and staff.
- Emergency Preparedness: The jail's readiness for emergencies was evaluated, including fire drills and alarm system functionality.
- Inmate Processing: Procedures for inmate admission, classification, and release were scrutinized to ensure compliance with state standards.
- Medical Care: Inspectors reviewed the quality and availability of medical care for inmates, including record-keeping practices.
- Hygiene Standards: Overall cleanliness, hygiene practices, and access to sanitation facilities were thoroughly inspected.

This comprehensive inspection involved a three-day process of interviewing inmates and staff, auditing paperwork, and conducting tests of critical systems.

“I am incredibly proud of the men and women of the Justice Bureau for their unwavering professionalism and excellence," said Sheriff Wesley Doolittle. "Their hard work and dedication ensured that our jail meets the rigorous standards set by the state of Texas. This achievement reinforces our commitment to maintaining the safety, health, and well-being of those in our care.”
