THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Comcast is leading the charge to increase digital literacy in Montgomery County by ensuring students at Lone Star College-Montgomery have access to tools and resources needed to communicate in an increasingly digital world. Comcast recently donated a $50,000 grant through LSC Foundation to set up a podcast studio at LSC-Montgomery for students to learn about digital literacy and teach them how to produce a podcast.

"Access to technology and the skills to use it are essential for success in today’s world," said Misha McClure, Comcast Texas’ Director of External Affairs. "This partnership with Lone Star College Foundation ensures that all learners, regardless of their circumstances, can harness digital tools in meaningful ways — creating, connecting and building their futures."

Comcast’s partnership opened the Audio Visual Lab inside LSC-Montgomery’s library. The innovative space has industry-standard equipment for users to learn, collaborate and create professional recordings. The Audio Visual Lab not only increases digital literacy but also promotes digital equity and supports access to digital media career pathways for students, employees and community members.

“Lone Star College Foundation is thrilled to work with Comcast to ensure our internal and external stakeholders have access to modern digital equipment they can use to learn and produce professional recordings that will set them up for success,” said Nicole Robinson Gauthier, CFRE, LSC Foundation executive director.

Comcast's grant also funds a second podcast studio in the college's marketing suite and stipends for three students to handle the content research, production and marketing for "Mavericks Minds," a student-led podcast. The hosts will record and air weekly 30 to 45-minute episodes on student-centered topics, interviews with various industry leaders and discussions on innovation. Additionally, the podcast will provide a monthly, 10-minute segment focused on digital literacy topics such as internet safety, digital skills development and access to digital resources. All segments will provide consistent, engaging and informative content while emphasizing Comcast's commitment to digital literacy.

“Maverick Minds is a safe space that will build real connection and conversation among students and campus leadership. We aim to amplify voices, spark change and make Lone Star College-Montgomery feel more like home – one episode at a time,” said Nasser Johnson and Adriana Martinez, LSC-Montgomery students, employees and Maverick Minds hosts. “We give Comcast a huge thank you for not just seeing our vision but believing it. “Their $50,000 investment means more than just funding a podcast; it’s a powerful statement that students do matter.”

Comcast’s investment is part of its operations to expand its Xfinity network into Montgomery County, bringing residents access to various services, including high-speed internet, cable television and phone services. Visit Comcast.com/Expansion to learn more.
