Music Teacher & Choir Director

Elementary School

SCOPE:

The Woodlands Methodist School (TWMS), an outreach of The Woodlands Methodist Church (TWMC), is currently seeking candidates for an Elementary Music Teacher and Choir Director position for the 2025-2026 school year. The Teacher is responsible for providing the best possible learning environment for all elementary classes and the students who join the TWMS Choir by supporting the mission of the school.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education
  • Must hold a valid Texas Music EC-12 teaching certification
  • Knowledge of Kodály and Orff teaching methods preferred
  • Experience with choral instruction and preparing for performances is preferred
  • Good communication skills
  • Committed Christian, comfortable sharing their faith with students and families
  • Must meet background check requirements, which include fingerprinting and an extensive criminal history search

JOB DUTIES:

Shall include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Create and maintain a classroom setting that meets accreditation expectations
  • Write and teach weekly lesson plans including skills and concepts based on Music TEKS
  • Provide choral instruction to the Elementary and Choir students
  • Work directly with children to meet individual needs and provide differentiated instruction
  • Clarify expectations for any support staff who may be assigned to each class
  • Effectively communicate with students, parents, and administration on a regular basis through meetings, emails, newsletters, etc.
  • Effectively collaborate with the TWMS Fine Arts team, TWMS administrators, TWMS Athletics, and other church ministries in planning choral performances
  • Provide performance, service, and social opportunities for TWMS Choir members throughout the year
  • Secure a qualified accompanist for choral performances
  • Care for room and equipment.  Report items needing repair or replacement and

 

submit requests for additional equipment, materials, and supplies

  • Cooperate with The Director of Elementary School and Gathering Place ministry to prepare short vocal performances for the ministry periodically
  • Cooperate with other church ministries who share the room
  • Attend staff meetings and scheduled team meetings
  • Meet school requirements for in-service training and professional growth
  • Inform the Director of Elementary School or the Head of School in cases of unreasonable behavior, parent complaints, or other problems which should be handled by administration in the best interest of the school
  • Attend annual school wide events
  • Perform any other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

CLASSIFICATION:

This position could be either an exempt, part-time or full-time position. If it is full-time, it is eligible for benefits.  This position works school hours during the school year, and some before and/or after school hours as needed for the TWMS Choir, with limited hours during the summer.
