Possibility of tornado activity


The storm front is moving in earlier than previously anticipated, producing high winds, dangerously large hail, and causing significant damage. The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the following counties in southeastern Texas until 10:30 a.m. CDT:

* AT 958 AM CDT...DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. THIS STORM WAS LOCATED NEAR TODD MISSION...OR 14 MILES EAST OF NAVASOTA...AND MOVING NORTHEAST AT 50 MPH. NICKEL SIZE HAIL MAY ALSO ACCOMPANY THE DAMAGING WINDS.

* LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE…

WESTERN CONROE...MONTGOMERY...TODD MISSION...LAKE CONROE DAM...PLANTERSVILLE...DACUS AND DOBBIN.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A TORNADO WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE AREA. ALTHOUGH A TORNADO IS NOT IMMEDIATELY LIKELY...IF ONE IS SPOTTED...ACT QUICKLY AND MOVE TO A PLACE OF SAFETY IN A STURDY STRUCTURE...SUCH AS A BASEMENT OR SMALL INTERIOR ROOM.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX...325 AM CDT MON OCT 13 2014

...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS TODAY…

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS.

TODAY AND TONIGHT

THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER ACROSS PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS TODAY AS A STRONG COLD FRONT SWEEPS THROUGH THE AREA DURING THE DAYTIME HOURS. A SQUALL LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ALONG AND AHEAD OF THE FRONT AS IT PUSHES INTO THE AREA.

WHILE THIS STORM SYSTEM`S PRIMARY SEVERE WEATHER THREAT AREA WILL BE OFF TO OUR NORTH AND NORTHEAST...STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DAMAGING STRAIGHT LINE WINDS...HAIL...AND PERHAPS A BRIEF WEAK TORNADO OR TWO COULD DEVELOP ACROSS SOUTHEAST TEXAS WITH THE MAIN THREAT AREA NORTH OF THE INTERSTATE 10 CORRIDOR...GENERALLY NORTH OF A LINE FROM COLUMBUS TO HOUSTON TO WINNIE.

THE LINE OF STORMS WILL ALSO BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING VERY HEAVY RAINFALL...BUT THERE SHOULD ONLY BE A SMALL FLOOD THREAT DUE TO THE RAPID EASTWARD MOVEMENT OF THIS SYSTEM. THE SQUALL LINE SHOULD MOVE ACROSS THE COLLEGE STATION TO CROCKETT AREA FROM 7 AM TO 11 AM...THE HOUSTON AREA FROM 10 AM TO 2 PM...AND THE COAST FROM NOON TO 4 PM. IT IS POSSIBLE THE LINE OF STORMS COULD MOVE THROUGH FASTER THAN EXPECTED.
