It’s a “Ruby” anniversary for Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center as the hospital celebrates 40 years of service to the community

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Forty years ago today Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center made its debut as the first hospital in The Woodlands. Known at the time as The Woodlands Community Hospital, it opened with 42 beds and less than 200 employees. In the years since, Memorial Hermann The Woodlands has kept pace with the growing community, expanding its footprint and specialty services to ensure residents have access to safe, evidence-based, quality care close to home.

“It’s been a remarkable four decades of service to The Woodlands, Shenandoah, Conroe, Spring and our many surrounding communities,” said Justin Kendrick, senior vice president and chief executive officer for Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center and Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital. “Our incredible journey has been possible thanks to the dedication of exceptional nurses, staff and affiliated physicians, as well as the community at large who has entrusted us as their medical center of choice.”

Today, Memorial Hermann The Woodlands houses 457 beds and is the largest health care employer in Montgomery County with more than 3,300 employees. The medical center’s 1,400-plus affiliated physicians across nearly 90 disciplines utilize state-of-the-art technology to address the community’s health care needs, from routine outpatient visits to complex, acute inpatient procedures.

It features Montgomery County’s largest Level II Trauma Center and also serves as a Memorial Hermann Life Flight® base for the north Houston metro area. Memorial Hermann The Woodlands also was the first hospital in Montgomery County granted Magnet® status, an international distinction for nursing excellence and quality care by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) – a designation it still holds today.

In addition to its advanced and diverse health care offerings as a medical center, Memorial Hermann The Woodlands has further rooted itself in the community by:

• Offering free, unique support to cancer survivors and their caregivers, regardless of where they receive their treatment, at the Canopy Cancer Survivorship Center
• Sponsoring physical activities for a wide range of athletic abilities, including the Memorial Hermann IRONMAN North American Championship and the Children's Memorial Hermann IRONKIDS Texas Fun Run and Doggie Dash, Memorial Hermann 10 for Texas, Woodlands Tri, Crush Rush 5K, Run and Done 3.1 and the Glow and Go 5K
• Raising funds through Memorial Hermann In the Pink of Health to support mammograms for underserved women in Montgomery County, education and earlier detection for both breast and ovarian cancers, plus philanthropic support of Canopy; in nearly 25 years, In the Pink of Health has invested more than $9 million back into the community
• Supporting the Interfaith Community Clinic for underserved Montgomery County residents, including philanthropic support of nearly $1 million in FY24
• Developing free educational events for area EMS, school nurses and nursing students to further develop their skills and knowledge base, while also collaborating with area schools and the new HEAL High School in Aldine ISD to help inspire and train more medical professionals
