THE WOODLANDS, TX -- As the holiday season winds down and decorations come down, many residents are left wondering: What should I do with my Christmas tree? Here’s your guide to eco-friendly disposal and recycling options:

Green vs. Flocked Trees

  • Green Trees (unflocked, free of decorations, lights, and stands):
These can be composted! Simply place them at the curb on your regular service day for collection by the yard trimmings truck. Trees over 6 feet tall must be cut down to 6 feet or less before collection.

Alternatively, green trees can be dropped off at the tree corral located at:
The Recreation Center at Rob Fleming Park, 6464 Creekside Forest Drive
    Dates: Thursday, December 26, 2024 – Sunday, January 12, 2025.

Recycled trees will be chipped and used as flooring under the Texas TreeVentures aerial obstacle course—giving your tree a second life!

  • Flocked Trees (covered in artificial snow):
Unfortunately, these trees must be landfilled due to the plastic fibers they contain. To dispose of flocked or broken artificial trees, contact Waste Management at wm.com or call 800-800-5804 to schedule a bulk pickup at least two business days before your regular service day.

Plan for a Greener Holiday Next Year!

To make your holidays even more sustainable in the future, consider decorating with white garlands and ornaments instead of flocking. This small change can help reduce landfill waste and contribute to a greener, cleaner environment.

Thank you for doing your part to recycle and reduce waste this holiday season. Together, we can make a big impact!
