Carl’s Quality Cooling & Heating Gifts Veteran a New HVAC System
THE WOODLANDS, TX – Once again, the staff at Carl’s Quality Cooling & Heating have delivered a Christmas miracle to a local resident in need. Since 2016, founder and owner Carl Schweikhardt has provided families with a complete and installed heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system free of charge in the spirit of the holidays.
With nominations running through several weeks in December, the person chosen to receive this year’s gift was Mr. Roland Rous, a retired Air Force veteran and an incredible individual whose story of resilience, love, and care for others is both humbling and inspiring.
Rous family friend Robyn Balusek submitted the winning nomination, whose words immediately caught the notice of Schweikhardt and his crew:
“[Roland] t is a retired Air Force veteran of 20 years and is on 100% disability from his years serving in the Vietnam war and being exposed to Agent Orange. In 2019, he was diagnosed with lung cancer and had a lobectomy… Two weeks later, he suffered a major stroke from his surgery. He is very motivated and worked hard with months of therapy and overcame the odds. Thankfully with better health, he was able to care for his wife with dementia up until her passing in November of 2023… He truly is an incredible and caring person and would truly benefit financially from a new unit. Thank you for considering this special man!”
On December 27, a team from Carl’s – led by general manager Taylor Caldwell – descended upon Rous’ Conroe home and presented him with his gift, which visibly moved him.
“We’re really excited. This is our favorite time of year. We really love and enjoy giving back to our community every year, and this is our humble contribution to the community that has provided so much for us and our growth and our success,” Caldwell told Woodlands Online.
“The fact that he’s a 20-year veteran, as a veteran-owned business ourselves we really appreciate and honor those who have served our country. The story of his hardship and journey back, and his road to recovery following his lung cancer and surgery, plus the passing of his wife in 2023, and where he is at today, I think really speaks to the kind of Christian values that we hold in our business and that this gentleman holds with his family.”
