Veteran of the Week - Charles Cox
CONROE, TX -- This week’s Veteran is Charles E. Cox, who served in the U.S. Army 1953-1955. He was recently at the Veterans Administration Conroe Clinic, for a dental appointment. Charles served stateside, training at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, as communications wireman for a Field Artillery Battalion. His job was to run lines of communication between the individual battery headquarters and the battalion HQ. Cox later served at Fort Sill, Oklahoma in the same position. He remembers seeing the M31 762mm Honest John Rocket being fired at Fort Sill which he considered an impressive sight. The warhead consisted of bomblets, which spread out from the impact region causing further damage to the surrounding area. After his service time, Mr, Cox, made a career out of working in the metals industry. He first worked for Seco Steel, and then retired from Reynolds Metals Company. He recently turned 92 years old. Good Luck Charles, and Congratulations on being ‘Veteran of the Week’.
