THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands Water Agency has scheduled a flushing of the water distribution system for the Municipal Utility Districts (MUDs) serving The Woodlands. The affected districts include:

  • The Woodlands MUD No. 1
  • Montgomery County MUD Nos. 6, 7, 36, 39, 46, 47, 60, and 67
  • The Woodlands Metro Center MUD

The flushing process is set to begin the week of February 10, 2025, and will take approximately eight to ten weeks to complete.

Flushing the water distribution system is a standard maintenance procedure recommended by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). During this process, each flushing valve (fire hydrant) in the system will be opened and allowed to flow water for a short period.

As a result of the flushing, naturally occurring minerals such as iron may be agitated, potentially causing a temporary reddish or brown discoloration in the water. This discoloration is due to the oxidation of dissolved iron and does not affect the water’s safety for drinking.

What to Do if Discoloration Occurs:

  • Open faucets to flush out the water.
  • Avoid washing clothes until the discoloration clears.

For additional information or if you have questions regarding the flushing program, please contact the Customer Service Division of The Woodlands Water Agency at 855-H2O-SAVE (855-426-7283 ext. 4).
