MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- A life sentence was handed down on April 9, 2025, after a Montgomery County jury found a repeat violent offender guilty of a brutal knife attack that left a woman fearing for her life. Judge Phil Grant imposed the sentence following an emotional and gripping trial that exposed the defendant’s extensive criminal history and utter disregard for human life.

The trial began on April 7, 2025, in the 9th District Court, where Assistant District Attorneys Lianne Baldridge and Erin Delano selected the jury that would ultimately bring this dangerous individual to justice.

Jurors heard powerful and emotional testimony from the victim, who recounted how the defendant held a knife to her throat, threatened to kill her, and brutally assaulted her during the terrifying encounter. The horrifying attack was witnessed by a passing motorist who bravely intervened and called 911, providing crucial support and alerting law enforcement.

Paramedics from the Montgomery County Hospital District (MCHD) responded swiftly, treating the victim and transporting her to the hospital. Deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) arrived shortly after, launching an immediate investigation. Although the defendant fled the scene, deputies quickly secured an arrest warrant, and the defendant was apprehended.

After a thorough presentation of the evidence, the jury convicted the defendant of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a second-degree felony, and Assault Causing Bodily Injury to a Family Member with a Previous Conviction, a third-degree felony.

During the punishment phase, prosecutors introduced evidence of five prior felony convictions, including Robbery and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The court also heard chilling testimony from law enforcement about a separate incident in which the defendant violently attacked a young officer, attempted to take the officer’s firearm, and stole a patrol vehicle.

Judge Grant sentenced the defendant to life in prison for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and 20 years for Assault Causing Bodily Injury. The sentences will run concurrently. Because of the severity of the crimes and the defendant’s violent history, he will not be eligible for parole for 30 years.

Assistant District Attorney Lianne Baldridge: “This life sentence ensures that this violent offender will never again have the opportunity to harm another innocent person. Justice was served.”

District Attorney Brett Ligon: “From the victim’s courage, to the bystander’s heroism, to the relentless work of law enforcement and our prosecutors, justice prevailed. This defendant’s history of violence made clear that the only way to protect the public was a life sentence.”
