Ordinarily, the Woodlands Online Weather Team combines our weekend forecast with some accompanying events. We also post the predictions on Friday. However, this week, the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl and the ongoing issues of being powerless have inspired us to release the forecast a day early, and without events added, seeing as their possibility of coming to fruition are mutable to be sure.

Those of us sweltering over the past couple of days under blazing sun were mildly surprised to encounter heavy clouds and a spate of thunderstorms and rain. In fact, some areas have even been placed under a flood watch, as if to add insult to injury. Already, however, the temperature is rapidly dropping, and we’ll actually be in the 80s before sundown and in the 70s before midnight. The humidity is adding a lot of degrees to the heat index, and the winds will drop to nil overnight, so though it will be cooler as you sleep tonight, it won’t necessarily feel cooler.

The clouds will stick around all night long and well through Friday as the isolated thunderstorms continue, especially in the mid-morning hours. The clouds will keep the sun from warming things up, and we’ll actually enjoy a high temperature of 85 with a ‘feels-like’ addition of only seven degrees or so. If you’re still without power, it would be the first good day to open windows and let the cool dampness waft through the interior of your house.

The pressure front will crest on Saturday, bringing us warmer temperatures – a high of 89 – and a return to a high heat index, making it feel closer to 100 degrees. The humidity will make things feel positively sticky until the clouds unload the rains in the later afternoon. Much like the previous couple of nights, the low will hover around 74 degrees.

Unfortunately, Sunday will see a return to blazing sun and blistering temperatures. The mercury will make it back up to 92, and the heat index will be a full ten degrees above it. The occasional cloud will hang around, but this is the day that you really hope your air conditioning is working.

As Monday hits, hopefully everyone in the area will have power restored, and a good thing too; we’ll be seeing a series of sunny days with high temps in the low to mid 90s, with possibly more humidity-bringing rains to follow…

Stay tuned to Woodlands Online for Monday’s weekly weather forecast.
