Already the rumbling of thunder is resounding all over the area, and some of us might start suffering flashbacks to the recent storms. Unfortunately, there’s no escaping an entire week of thunderstorms and heavy rains.

Monday morning will start innocuously enough; gathering clouds and mounting winds will presage the oncoming first round of thunderstorms. Around lunchtime, the high of 87 will suddenly drop down several degrees, hang around 83 for a couple of hours, then plummet further until we eventually hit a low of 73. Right around the time of the temperature drop, the skies will open as the wind howls. Look for about a half-inch of rain to drop throughout the rest of the day.

Tuesday will see a continuation of the storms; they will take a mild breather overnight but never really go away. As the precipitation increases, the winds will moderate it a bit to balance it out. The clouds will dump nearly an inch of rain throughout the day as the high barely makes it to 85, with about another eight degrees added to the heat index thanks to all the moisture in the air.

By Wednesday, the clouds and the rising pressure and the rains will all work together to keep the temperatures low; in fact, we won’t even hit the 80s until noon today. Almost another inch will have dropped by nighttime, but then the rains should taper off for a bit, but don’t be lulled into a false sense of security. Overnight into Thursday, the wet stuff will return with a vengeance.

All Thursday long we’ll have some more rain, but the ferocity of the storms will abate somewhat over several hours. By nightfall, you should notice a distinct lessening of the storm’s rage for the first time in days. Once again, the high will only get up to 84 – augmented by the heat index thanks to the saturated humidity – and the low will drop to 72. Overnight into Friday, even the winds will drop to nil and – unless yard flooding as already gotten too real for comfort – you should have a more restful sleep.

On Friday, there will still be rain, but no more storming. Maybe a tenth or two of an inch will drop and get blown around by the resurgent winds. But the day should be relatively benign as we get a couple of degrees warmer than the day before.

Look for the wet stuff to continue all weekend, but not as ferocious…
