A Distinctively Dandy Day for Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel
THE WOODLANDS, TX – There’s a new deputy in town, and the streets of Montgomery County are safer – and a lot brighter – with him on patrol.
This 10-year-old fighter of cancer gets sworn in by 25 local law enforcement agencies
Today, 10-year-old Pearland resident Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel – surrounded by his family – was sworn in as an honorary peace officer by a total of 24 law enforcement agencies from Montgomery County and its surrounding areas. Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough issued a proclamation in DJ's honor, then introduced and welcomed the young valiant boy to his new bosses for the day, as one by one they had him raise his hand and be duly deputized for the day.
DJ is currently battling terminal brain and spine cancer; selflessly, his strongest desire has been to be sworn in by 100 law enforcement agencies. Today, thanks to Montgomery County Sheriff Rand Henderson and numerous others, DJ shattered that goal, now being a sworn-in member of 112 agencies.
“It was an honor to be at his ceremony this morning,” said Keough. “I presented him with a proclamation commemorating his achievement and recognizing him as an honorary officer at the agencies who swore him in. He’s so full of life and enthusiasm and his spirit is so calming to everyone he meets.”
The list of the agencies in Montgomery County that swore in DJ this morning include:
• Conroe ISD Police
• Conroe Police Department
• Cut-and-Shoot Police Department
• Lone Star Community College Police Department
• Magnolia Police Department
