THE WOODLANDS, TX – At its most recent public meeting, The Woodlands Township Board of Directors proclaimed the month of July 2024 as Parks and Recreation Month in The Woodlands.

Several outdoor venues are ready all over The Woodlands

“The Township supports its extensive network of parks, pools, pathways, greenbelts, recreation centers, boat houses, and an aerial adventure course, as well as the National Recreation and Park Association,” said Township representatives. “Parks and recreational activities provide valuable opportunities for community building, physical activity, socialization, and stress relief… Citizens are encouraged to participate in leisure activities to experience refreshment and enjoyment.”

For the upcoming Independence Day holidays, the Township Parks and Recreation Department has several events planned, including Pop at the Pool, Rock the Row, Family Bingo Night, and the Red, Hot & Pool + Red, Hot & Blue Festival and Fireworks Extravaganza. Woodlands Online will be providing livestreamed coverage of the fireworks event.

Additionally, there are numerous ongoing events, activities, and venues throughout The Woodlands, including Texas TreeVentures, Riva Row Boat House, Swans at the Mall, fourteen community pools, six spraygrounds, and recreation centers at Rob Fleming Park and Bear Branch Park. Also, residents can enjoy more than 90 playgrounds, 150 parks (of which more than 65 have BBQ pits), more than 40 ponds, skateparks, an archery range, the Ampitheater at Rob Fleming, the George Mitchell Nature Preserve, dog parks, and an excess of 220 miles of pathways.

The proclamation signed by Dr. Ann Snyder, Chairman of The Woodlands Township Board, read:

BE IT PROCLAIMED:

Whereas, in support of The Woodlands Township’s 150 parks, 14 pools, 220+ miles of pathway, countless greenbelts, two Recreation Centers, two boat houses, and an aerial adventure course, and in support of the National Recreation and Park Association; and

Whereas, parks, recreation activities, and leisure experiences provide opportunities for people to live, grow, and develop and these generate opportunities for people to come together and experience a sense of community through fun recreational pursuits and events; and

Whereas, park and recreation programs and services provide outlets for physical activities, socialization, and stress- reducing experiences; and

Whereas, parks, forest preserves, and open spaces provide a welcome respite from our fast-paced, high-tech lifestyles while protecting and preserving our natural environment; and

Whereas, The Woodlands has been designed around the concept that personal and family life are meant to be enjoyed, and that the natural and physical environment should enhance our common life; and

Whereas, The Woodlands Township understands the economic value of preserving and protecting open spaces, strategically providing and maintaining parks and recreation amenities to sustain property values, and the value of our parks in drawing tourists and visitors; and

Whereas, The Woodlands Township Parks and Recreation Department touches the lives of individuals, families, groups and the entire community through the provision of positive programs, services, and special events; and

Whereas, The Township encourages all citizens of The Woodlands to celebrate by participating in their choice of leisure activities available in The Woodlands to find refreshment and enjoyment;

Now, therefore, I, Dr. Ann K. Snyder, as Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Woodlands Township, do hereby proclaim the month of July as: Parks and Recreation Month.
