THE WOODLANDS, TX -- On Wednesday, January 15, students and parents from The John Cooper School gathered in The Glenn Performing Arts Center to attend the School’s annual College Symposium. Organized by the College Counseling Department, this informative event equips junior students with strategies to navigate the ever-evolving college admission process. Featuring seasoned admission professionals from a range of distinguished institutions, the symposium delivers critical insights to support students in making informed decisions about their future.

Guidance from Leading College Admission Experts Gives Juniors a Competitive Edge

This year’s esteemed panel included deans of admission from Boston College, George Washington University, Trinity University, and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). These experts offered their perspectives on the latest trends, challenges, and opportunities shaping the college admissions landscape. Key topics of discussion included comprehensive application reviews, effective strategies for distinguishing oneself in competitive applicant pools, and how universities are responding to shifts in education and society.

“We deeply appreciate our colleagues at these universities for dedicating their time to engage with our students,” said Laura Schroeder, Director of College Counseling. “Their expertise and perspectives enrich our students' understanding of the admission process and inspire confidence as they take their next steps.”

Following the panel discussion, attendees participated in breakout sessions, where they had the opportunity to connect directly with the deans. These smaller, interactive discussions delved deeper into specific aspects of college admissions, allowing students and parents to ask targeted questions tailored to their goals and aspirations.

“This event really opened my eyes to how I can make my application stand out,” Jacob Bailey, Class of 2026. “Hearing directly from college representatives gave me a clearer picture of what they’re looking for and how I can best present myself. I also really liked the individual conversations we could still have with the panelists in breakout groups.”

Whether students are just beginning to explore their college options or finalizing their list of prospective schools, The John Cooper School’s College Symposium serves as a pivotal resource. By offering expert guidance and meaningful engagement opportunities, the symposium helps ensure students are well-prepared for the next chapter of their academic journeys.
