THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The John Cooper School had a successful showing at the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) Championships held in Fort Worth, Texas, in February 2025. The athletes showcased remarkable talent and dedication across multiple sports. Throughout the season, each team demonstrated skill, resilience, and sportsmanship, culminating in a strong showing at the tournament. Girls Basketball
The Girls Basketball team had an outstanding season, finishing in fourth place at the SPC Championships. Their performance reflected their consistent effort and determination throughout the season. Junior Jordan Sheirr, found the basket an impressive six times behind the three-point line in the opening game of the tournament, igniting excitement in the team and leading the way toward their successful run. The Dragons displayed excellent teamwork and resilience, overcoming challenges against top competition.

Boys Basketball
The Boys Basketball team also had a noteworthy run, securing fifth place at the SPC Championships. Despite facing some tough competition, they remained focused and played with intensity. Senior duo Jeremiah Parquet and Skyler Loggins showed a relentless pursuit to the basket, and the Dragon defense was particularly impressive holding off opponents from charging to the rim. Their performance was one to be proud of, as they demonstrated sportsmanship and heart throughout the tournament.

Girls Soccer
The Girls Soccer team placed seventh at the SPC Championships, showing a great deal of strength and determination. Throughout the competition, they fought hard in every match while exuding poise and excellence. Freshman Julianna Christaldi, and Sophomore Ella Chisholm, made big contributions to the Dragons’ success, and the entire team steadily improved with each game they played.

Boys Soccer
The Boys Soccer team placed fifth at the SPC Championships, putting in a strong and competitive performance throughout the tournament. They demonstrated excellent teamwork, with solid offensive and defensive play. The senior class stood out as they commanded the team to hard-fought wins. Senior Eddie Benes, was impermeable in front of the net, blocking two crucial penalty attempts that saved the game for the Dragons. Their 5th-place finish was a solid result in a highly competitive field and a positive reflection of a stellar season.

Boys Swimming and Diving
The Boys Swimming and Diving team excelled at the SPC Championships, finishing in third place. Their performances in both individual and team events were exceptional, with several athletes securing personal bests and shaving off huge amounts of time. The team’s versatility in the pool and on the diving board were key factors in their success. Senior, Diego Burgos thrived on the diving boards placing first, while Freshman, Andy Wang, highlighted the weekend with two individual titles and key contributions on relays. The Boys team won six gold, one silver, and three bronze medals. The athletes' commitment to their training and their ability to perform under pressure helped them secure a spot on the podium, a testament to their hard work and preparation throughout the season.

Girls Swimming and Diving
The Girls Swimming and Diving team also placed third at the SPC Championships, showcasing their wealth of skill in the pool. With standout performances in both individual and relay events, the team displayed impressive technical ability and teamwork. Senior Monica Ianeva, left her mark on the SPC in the form of two new 3A meet records, besting her times from last year’s competition and setting a new school record. Freshman, Adriana Boles held down the diving competition, placing first and showing potential for years to come. The Dragon’s dedication to training was evident in their ability to rise to the occasion at the championships. The Girls team won three gold, three silver, and four bronze medals. Securing a top-three finish was a proud achievement for the team, and it underscored the collective effort and excellence that defines their program.
