A Roaring Tribute: Family Honors Late Husband with 1920s-Themed Fundraiser for Memorial Hermann Neuro Advancements
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands, February 8, 2025 with feathered headbands, jazz melodies, and the spirit of the 1920’s in full swing, The Woodlands Community supported as Susanne Underkoffler and her children Katie and Christian, by attending a dazzling fundraiser in honor of their beloved husband and father, Bruce Underkoffler. Mr. Underkoffler passed away in late 2020 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. The event was a heartfelt tribute to his legacy, not only celebrating his spirit but also raising vital funds for the Bruce Underkoffler Neuroscience Brain Cancer Fund at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center.
Held in the Stone Crab Room and starlit patio at Truluck’s on the shore of Lake Woodlands, guests were transported back to the era of speakeasies and flappers. Friends, neighbors and community leaders, all coming together to support the family’s mission-Supporting brain cancer patients with technology and patient care enhancements. The evening featured a moving address from Susanne, a touching tribute from son Christian, and Bruce’s physician and neurosurgeon, Dr. George Al Shamy, who shared touching memories of providing care to Bruce and the urgent need for technology and innovation to continue to enhance patient care in the community. Bruce’s dear friend Robert Johnson served as the evening’s emcee, reminding the guests to participate in the silent auction, and most importantly to give generously.
“This was more than just a party, it was a tribute to a remarkable man and a call to action,” said Robert Johnson. “Bruce faced his battle with courage, and we want to ensure that others faced with neuro trauma, stroke or other complex complications have access to the best care and the most advanced treatments possible, right here in The Woodlands.”
The success of the evening proves that love, community, and a touch of Gatsby-era glamour can make a difference. But the opportunity to give doesn’t end there. Those who wish to contribute can still do so at by making a gift to the Bruce Underkoffler Fund at the Memorial Hermann Foundation linked here.
In an era which led to the coming of innovation and resilience, this event honored a man who embodied both and ensures his legacy fighting against brain cancer continues, one donation at a time. Special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. R. Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. J. Schoepf for their generosity and unwavering support.
